JDT make history by clinching fourth consecutive Super League title

Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) has sealed their 4th consecutive league title despite losing 2-1 away at Selangor

Selangor though clinched an amazing win after coming from a goal down thanks to Amri Yahyah and Andik Vermansyah.

JDT from the offset tried to discomfort Selangor but they had trouble doing so for most parts of the game with K. Kannan stifling Gabriel Guerra.

After 16 minutes though, Selangor thought they scored when a corner was out of Izham Tarmizi’s reach, only for Adam Nor Azlin to somehow guide the ball to the side netting far post.

Selangor though took the game to JDT but chances were spurned by Amri and Francis Forkey Doe after great work with the ball.

However, Selangor’s good work to frustrate JDT came undone on the 39th minute when S. Veenod slipped at a crucial moment and it allowed the ball to reach Natxo Insa, who lets fly his shot and in the corner, leaving Norazlan Razali no chance.

Guerra also could’ve scored himself a minute before half-time, but his powerful low shot went just wide.

Seven minutes after the restart, Izham was called to action with an amazing save to deny Amri on the right.

Selangor continued the attack and their hard work paid off by catching JDT off guard when Syahmi Safari threw the ball in quickly and Amri took advantage of JDT’s sleeping defense to finish from a tight angle.

JDT also had a great chance thanks to Gonzalo Cabrera’s low curler on 66 minutes, but Norazlan pulled off another save.

Andik Vermansyah came on the 71st minute and he only took six minutes to make an impact when he picked up a through ball from Namathevan and shoots almost immediately past a despairing Izham.

JDT could’ve equalized immediately, but Aidil Zafuan’s header hit the crossbar and Natxo’s rebound effort was somehow kept out.

The last chance of the match fell to JDT and Norazlan pulled off an amazing double save by first diving to save Safiq’s free-kick and blocked Cabrera’s rebound from close range.

Despite the defeat, JDT can now celebrate their league title into the night as Kedah, who was the only team that can catch up mathematically, lost to Pahang away 2-1 with three games remaining.
