Johor Darul Ta’zim will be playing against Selangor in a nail-biting, have-you-on-the-edge-of-the-seat fixture tonight. There’s bound to be tears, laughter, and a lot of drama, and here’s why.
The Southern Tigers are gunning for their fourth consecutive Malaysia Super League title, and tonight’s clash against Selangor will determine their title confirmation.
Already reigning supreme on the Super League table in first place with 45 points, Johor Darul Ta’zim are 11 points ahead of their closest rivals, the second-placed Kedah.
If Johor Darul Ta’zim win against Selangor tonight — or if they even manage a draw — it will no longer be possible for the remaining teams to catch up; and thus result in the Southern Tigers sealing their 4th consecutive Super League title.
Should that be the case, the Southern Tigers have announced that there will be no celebration or lifting the Super League trophy tonight despite confirming their title win.
According to the football club, the celebrations will be held only after the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, on the 20th of September in Larkin.
“JDT will not have any title celebration or lift the Super League trophy at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium tonight — even if they win the match against Selangor.” a statement on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page said.
“The celebration will be done with the players and fans in Johor after the 2017 SEA Games, which will be after the match against Kelantan at the Tan Sri Dato Haji Hassan Yunos Stadium, Larkin on September 20th 2017.”
“The celebration will be just like last time where the parade will begin from the Larkin Stadium and head towards Dataran Bandaraya Johor Bahru with the JDT fans.” the statement said.
Selangor vs Johor Darul Ta’zim will be happening tonight at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium at 9pm. Follow us on Twitter @StadiumMY for live updates.
