In a best of five penalty shoot-out, Team Malaysia took the win and went home as champions.
Jointly organized by FourthOfficial.com and celebrity fitness guru Dee Dee Mahmood, the walking football initiative is part of research project seeking to explore the effects of exercise on obesity and cancer markers.
“Both teams did exceptionally well and fought tight for 30 minutes — you cannot even tell there was a cancer patient in Team Singapore!” said fitness expert Dee Dee Mahmood, who trained both teams for the tournament. Dee Dee is also a celebrity trainer and physiologist based in Singapore and Malaysia.
“Walking football just as fun as regular football, it’s just at a slower pace. This initiative should encourage more individuals to come out and be physically active. More importantly though, it doesn’t take away the thrill and simple joys of playing football!” the Editor of FourthOfficial.com said.
