The Westwood Effect: Ashley fuelling a revolution in Penang FA

Former Manchester United trainee Ashley Westwood is determined to revolutionise the Penang squad, and he knows just what do and how to do it.

The 41-year old knew what he signed up for, and he did it with little to no expectations at all. He was well-aware that there was a lot of work to be done when he took over the club from Croatian Nenad Bacina.

Upon arriving at the Pearl of the Orient, Westwood made it clear that he was focused on creating a healthy training environment and an inspiring football culture. Apart from that, his biggest concern is his player’s diet.

This was vouched by former Malaysia international K. Reuben, who recently inked a deal with the Panthers.

“He is meticulous from the food, to training to timing, and that character has begun to rub off on me. I am looking forward to playing for him. He is very professional, and wants all the players to be same as well,” Reuben told ESPN FC.

Apart from Reuben, Westwood has also snagged Australian-born midfielder Shazalee Ramlee, and former UiTM defender Zulkhairi Zulkeply. And he’s not done yet. Thamil Arasu, G. Mahadevan and S. Subramaniam are some of the players on his watch list, before the player’s signing deadline on Friday.

We are really excited to see what Westwood is going to do with Penang. After all, he was the man who built Bengaluru FC from scratch and led them to two championships!
