Back in May, the Melaka United Soccer Assoication (MUSA) decided to ‘rest’ their then-head coach, Eric Williams, after Melaka’s dismal performance in the Super League. Melaka was on the verge of entering the relegation zone.

About a month later, MUSA confirmed that they will be announcing a new head coach — who later turned out to be Eduardo Almeida from Portugal.

Eric Williams lashed out at MUSA’s chaotic management upon leaving, while also labelling local players as “overpaid but lazy”.

MUSA’s vice president, Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Mahadi has since responded to Eric Williams’ allegations directed at him and the management.

According to Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, the accusations was probably the result of dissatisfaction on Williams’ side after his contract was terminated.

Datuk Yusoff Mahadi went on to elaborate the situation, explaining that MUSA gave Eric Williams 7 months to work on the team but the result was less than satisfactory.

At the end of the first-half of the Super League season, Melaka still remained at the bottom of the Super League table, and that led to William’s contract being terminated earlier than what was agreed.

However, the Melaka team manager insists that they did give Williams a choice; he could stay and coach the youth team, or he could leave with three-month salary. It was Eric Williams himself who chose to leave with the three-month salary, but later blamed it on the transfer agent for bringing in players he didn’t agree with.

Datuk Yusoff Mahadi also believes that the tension between Eric Williams and Melaka players could have stemmed from misunderstanding.

“I did not want to make any rash decisions. I tried to remain calm after a few complaints. But then the import players started complaining about him too. So I had to make a decision.” Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said in an interview with Berita Harian.

“Whatever decision we make is to for the good of Melaka United. We want a positive result in the M.League. Of course Williams can vent his frustrations if he is unhappy about how things turned out, but as the management, we have our obligations.” he added.

Datuk Yusoff Mahadi went on to add that Williams’ allegations did not and will not deviate Melaka from their focus — and they will continue to move forward.

Melaka has yet to win a Super League match under the new head coach, Eduardo Almeida. Since the second half of the season commenced, they have managed one draw (to PKNS) and suffered two defeats (to Penang and Kedah).

They did, however, record a 2-1 win over UiTM FC in the Group C Malaysia Cup fixture earlier this week (18 July), and defeated Kelantan 3-0 in another Malaysia Cup fixture on the 8th of July.

Pahang head coach Dollah Salleh has been banned for 18 months for breaking several key statutes within Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) constitution.

According to a press statement released by the governing body, Dollah will be forced to stay away from all football-related activities under the supervision of FAM, throughout the suspension. At the same time, he has also been handed a RM30,000 fine.

This comes after Dollah reportedly broke Article 61 of the FAM Code of Conduct dropping negative comments or innuendos on FAM, in the aftermath of Pahang’s Super League clash against Felda United at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium on the 1st of July. He has also been charged for attacking and slandering the governing body on how it handles the organization and management of the league.

However, the suspension has been divided into two stages. Stage one will be in effect for approximately nine months (21 July 2018 to 20 April 2018), while the remaining nine months (21 April 2018 to 20 January 2019) will be suspended, as long as Dollah showcases ‘good behaviour’ during the first stage.

Should there be another unprofessional conduct from the ex-Malaysian boss, the second stage of the suspension will be triggered instantly and he will be forced to serve it until January 2019.

“Any local companies interested in sponsoring aquatics?”

That was the question posed by Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin on Twitter today.

The minister posed the question in light of national diver Cheong Jun Hoong’s victory at the FINA World Aquatics Championship that took place in Budapest, Hungary, just a few days back.

Cheong Jun Hoong made history when she became the first ever Malaysian to win gold medal at the championship.

“Look at the sponsors for FINA World Championship! Since we now have a world champ, any local companies interested in sponsoring aquatics?” the minister tweeted.

“Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (ASUM) could do with sponsors, or naming rights for National Aquatics Centre or endorse the diving team.”

“Point is, Cheong Jun Hoong, Pandelela Rinong, and Angela Leong have demonstrated world class performance & shown sport not just about football & badminton.”

Khairy Jamaluddin then went on to praise MAS (Malaysia Airlines) for awarding Pandelela and Nur Dhabitah a four-year sponsorship, from 2016 all the way to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.

“Even MAS who are not facing their best days can throw something at our divers. Let’s see other companies step up.” the minister added.

“Marketing Partners for USA Swimming. US world class in swimming. Malaysia world class in diving. Support!”

What do guys think of the minister’s request?

Football Association of Thailand (FAT) have officially notified the Asian Football Confederaton of its decision to withdraw from the on-going bidding process for the AFC Asian Cup to be staged in 2023.

Three countries in the form of China, South Korea and Thailand expressed initial interest in hosting the event, and the AFC responded by hosting a bid workshop to outline the bidding process to officials these countries.

However, it now appears that China and South Korea – both of whom are arch rivals in football – will be left to contest the bidding process. A decision on the winner is likely to be made in 2018.

The United Arab Emirates will host the AFC Asian Cup 2019 between January 5 and February 1, 2019.

It’s been a difficult day, hasn’t it?

The world was left absolutely shocked on Thursday after it was revealed that Linkin Park’s lead vocalist Chester Bennington was found dead in his Los Angeles residence, with reports claiming that he took his own life.

The timing of his death is absolutely tragic, given that Linkin Park had only recently launched their seventh album (One More Light), 17 years after releasing their first album (Hybrid Theory). It’s also amplified by the fact that Chester left us all on the birthday of Grunge legend and close friend, Chris Cornell, who took his own life in May.

But it’s no secret that Chester struggled with alcholism and substance abuse for large portions of his life. He was very transparent about his struggles and actively spoke about the battles and demons he had to fight within himself.

CHESTER & IPSWICH TOWN

Chester was a huge fan of his hometown NBA outfit, Phoenix Suns, but when it came to football or soccer, as they call it in the United States, Chester had an affinity for Ipswich Town. Back in April 2009, when Ipswich were competing in the Championship, East Anglian Daily Times published an article explaining how Chester was easily the Tractor Boys’ most famous fan.

According to them, Chester’s dad, Lee Bennington, was close friends with Alan Howard; a now-retired police officer from Suffolk. Lee made a trip to the UK in the early 1990s, and visited Portman Road, alongside Alan, for a few Ipswich Town games. That trip made him fall in love with club and according to Alan, he passed it to his son Chester as well.

“He came on duty with me and went to a couple of football matches at Portman Road and he took an interest in Ipswich Town. The following year I was invited over to Phoenix where he lived and that’s when I first met Chester – he was about 13 or 14,” Alan told the East Anglican Daily Times.

“Chester has never been to a match because every time he comes over to the UK for a tour it’s normally the summer but he follows Ipswich on the internet and he always knows what position they are in the league and he takes an interest in the scores,” he added.

Alan went on to even reveal that Chester had expressed his desire to one day host a concert at Portman Road, where the club plays its home matches. Nonetheless, the club posted a short tribute on Twitter to pay respects to a man that had clearly influenced millions of people around the globe. Ipswich Town fans were also flooding Twitter with plenty of messages for the Linkin Park star.
