Malacca United team manager Datuk Yusoff Mahadi has admitted that the Malaysia Premier League (MPL) leaders are interested in signing FELDA United striker Thiago Augusto Fernandes to strengthen their cause in the league as well as in the Malaysia Cup.
The Brazilian forward, 26, has been approached a number of clubs during the past few weeks after FELDA United have not registered him as one of their foreign players this season.
Malacca United are keen on splashing the cash on Thiago Fernandes because it is unlikely that FELDA United will register him in the squad for the second half of the season.
“We have Thiago Fernandes on our radar,” Yusoff Mahadi said as quoted by Stadium Astro.
“The club cannot be too comfortable at the summit of the league because other teams will be more determined to bring us down, so we would definitely need to make a change.
“We will only know the extent of our transfer activities once we discuss with the coaches.
Malacca United are currently first in the league after amassing 27 points out of a possible 36.
Datuk Yusoff Mahadi also stressed the importance of the upcoming Malaysia Cup campaign.
“I want the team to take a game at a time. We need to change in order to compete.”
