Miami Open: Distracted Murray sent packing in third round

Serena Williams was not the only top seed to bow out from the Miami Open as world number two Andy Murray too was knocked out from his favourite tournament.

The Briton was sent packing after being outplayed by Grigor Dimitrov 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 yesterday. The Bulgarian has never beaten Murray since Wimbledon 2014 and has successfully advance to the fourth round of the tournament.

Not the best day for Murray as he was not in his best form. Dimitrov was rather excellent in terms of skills and was just too powerful for Murray during their meeting.

Not to mention, coach Amelie Mauresemo was absent in his support box, adding much more conflict to his emotions. He even received a warning for hitting his racket against his bag eight times at a change of ends.

“I’ve just been trying to find different ways to improve my focus on the court. I also did the same thing at the O2 Arena as well, so I’ m trying to find different ways to improve and that’s something I’ve tested to see if that might help,” said Murray as quoted from The Guardian.

On about Mauresmo’s absence, Murray clarified that the two are not in bad terms.

“If I’d had a falling out then Amelie wouldn’t be here at the tournament. We had dinner with all our families last night, so we certainly haven’t fallen out,” he said.

“I was saying it can be a distraction, but it’s one of those things that when I win no-one says anything about it, and then when I lose that’s an excuse. I don’t think that is the reason for me hitting 50 unforced errors in this match in my opinion.”

‘It’s very disappointing because I had plenty of time to prepare and practice for this,’ he added.

‘I got myself in a winning position so it couldn’t have been that bad, but couldn’t close it out. There were far too many unforced errors that crept in towards the end.”
